'Shaman with the Mother' Lancing symmetrical beams, the solar disk glows with ancestral symbols. Huichol
artisans portrays the sun, father of the Huichol people. In the fiery rays, the mara'akame (shaman) appears; Six-sided peyote flowers, or jikuri, graces each cheek in
precise symmetry. Huichol artisans painstakingly apply beads to copalillo wood to create this elegant piece. The Huichol Artisan sculpted the sun from copalillo wood and
covered it with colorful icons of their people. Sculpted of copalillo wood, it is reverently covered with sacred symbols created with colorful chaquira beads. He first
carves the sculpture from palo dulce wood. The intricate motifs are formed with tiny chaquira beads, placed one at a time with a needle. Beeswax is used instead of glue.
-Beadwork on copalillo wood -Keep out of heat -Keep out of the sun
